Disney Songs to Empower Birthing Mamas

Arielle Wolter

Sometimes watching frozen over and over again because you have a persistant 4 year old and a 2 year old that loves to sing along does things to a person, esspecially if your a doula. While sitting there with everyone else just enjoying the movie and their popcorn you think wow thats really an empowering song for birth. To tell you the truth there has been more then once that I just want to let it go turn my back and slam the door on people who tell me birth cannot happen naturally and women need needles stuck in their arm. Im a woman who has birthed children in a natural way and help others to birth in whichever way they see fit. Women who want to birth the way their intuition and instincts allow them to should not be persecuted and belittled they should be support and feel empowered on their joourney.

You may be wondering why some of these songs are here so ill share my personal views.

Let It go

This is a song that deeply reminds me of transition, just take a minute and listen and think of going inward or transition if your have experianced it before and you will know what I mean. It also reminds me of taking back the birth experiance and making it your own. Everytime I listen to this song it moves something deep within me and makes me feel like I am empowered and want to cry all at once.

Touch the Sky

For those of you who know me you know I am Celtic and love celtic music. This music is very Celtic and allows your soul to soar and allows you to do anything you think you can. It is such a beautiful inspiring song that is great for anyone who will be giving birth and even afterwards to enlighten children on their way. and yes the wisps do exist!!!!

I see the light

This is the perfect song for welcoming baby into the world and it truely is the way parents feel when there child is born. All at once everything is different now that I see you. Aslo a beautiful song to sing to baby in the womb.

Colors of the wind

Mothers who are trying to go for a natural birth may understand this one better then most. People may give you odd looks health care providers may even laugh at you however I believe this song explains it, Still I cannot see if the savage one is me how is it theres so much that you dont know. This explains the birthing world of women in a nutshell. In a world of "cannot" and technology sometimes we have to look back to our ancestors for the answers.

Many of these songs are quite empowering for birthing mothers esspecially if you are giving birth after have a birth with lots of interventions, VBAC or just finally want your birth experiance to be yours. So next time dont feel bad singing along with your 2 year old, feel empowered and rock it mama!!!!!

I See The Light

Music by Alan Menken; lyrics by Glenn Slater Performed by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi All those days watching from the windows All those years outside looking in All that time never even knowing Just how blind I've been Now I'm here, blinking in the starlight Now I'm here, suddenly I see Standing here, it's all so clear I'm where I'm meant to be And at last I see the light And it's like the fog has lifted And at last I see the light And it's like the sky is new And it's warm and real and bright And the world has somehow shifted All at once everything looks different Now that I see you All those days, chasing down a daydream All those years, living in a blur All that time, never truly seeing Things the way they were Now she's here, shining in the starlight Now she's here, suddenly I know If she's here, it's crystal clear I'm where I'm meant to go And at last I see the light And it's like the fog has lifted And at last I see the light And it's like the sky is new And it's warm and real and bright And the world has somehow shifted All at once everything looks different Now that I see you Now that I see you
